5 Top Books for Aspiring Authors

With just three days until the Book Writing Masterclass kicks off, I've been thinking about the books that helped shape my writing.

Here are my top 5 books that I recommend all aspiring authors to read:

1. On Writing by Stephen King

Fun fact – King used to have a small writing desk in his living room, allowing him to be close to his family while writing. A heartwarming takeaway for me.

2. On Writing Well by William Zinsser

Imagine having a top-notch writing coach by your side. This book's all about the mantra: keep it clear and simple.

3. Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott

Another classic read for aspiring authors. You learn what it's really like to be a writer and the habits you need to develop to write well.

4. How to Take Smart Notes by Sönke Ahrens

This is a great guide if you want to learn how to pull ideas from different sources into a coherent structure.

5. The Elements of Style by William Strunk & E. White

A timeless piece on nailing the basics of English writing. A must-read (and re-read) for every new and seasoned writer.
