Why Ramadan is the perfect time to set life-changing intentions
10th Ramadan 1446H
Assalamu'alaikum,
What if the intentions you set this Ramadan become the catalyst for a truly transformed life?
A few years ago, we started an annual tradition at the Productive Muslim Company. We began doing our annual planning - both on an individual level and company level - during Ramadan instead of January like most people.
Why? Because Ramadan provides a unique spiritual environment that makes it the perfect time to set what we call "high himmah" intentions - those elevated, aspiration-driven goals that align with our ultimate purpose as slaves of Allah.
Ramadan felt like the perfect time to plan the year ahead for three powerful reasons:
During Ramadan, we're in a far better spiritual state, which means any intentions we make for the upcoming year will be more aligned with serving Allah and preparing ourselves for the Akhira.
The Shayateen (devils) are chained during the holy month of Ramadan, which means they're less likely to influence our planning. Moreover, our nafs (ego) is more disciplined during Ramadan due to fasting and increased prayer, making us less likely to set self-centered intentions and more likely to focus on what truly matters.
Ramadan, especially during Laylatul Qadr (the Night of Power), is a blessed time to make dua for our life intentions. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that during this night, Allah (SWT) decrees what will happen in the year to come. What better time to align our intentions with what Allah has planned for us?
Alhamdulillah, this annual intention-setting practice was not only transformative for ourselves and our company but also for many students who learned this method through our Annual Intentions Masterclass.
This year, we wanted to take our annual intentions class to a new level. We didn't just want to help people set ANY annual intentions, but set high aspirational intentions - what we call "high himmah intentions" that will be the spark for the rest of their lives.
But what exactly is "high himmah"? Himmah refers to high aspiration, determination, and zeal. It's about setting your aspirations toward the highest possible goals - not just in dunya (worldly matters) but primarily in your relationship with Allah (SWT) and preparation for the Akhira (afterlife).
We believe that a life without high himmah is a wasted life that feels devoid of spiritual meaning and drive. But a life with high himmah can be the spark that keeps you going to be the best 'abd (servant) of Allah in all aspects of your life. When your intentions are elevated, your entire life becomes more purposeful.
That's why we've created a FREE 3-day High Himmah Challenge taking place this Thursday through Saturday (March 13th-15th) from 8:00PM-9:00 PM Makkah Time each day. (Click here to register for FREE).
