Lessons from a Dying Parent
Reflections on the death of my father (may Allah have mercy on him)
Assalamu’alaikum,
إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّآ إِلَيْهِ رَٰجِعُونَ
To Allah we belong and to Him we will return
My father, Abdullah Rubeya Faris, passed away last Thursday on the 5th of Sha'baan 1445H (15th February 2024).
This has been a long and difficult journey for him and for our family that started with a prostate cancer diagnosis in 2005, then increased in intensity in the last 12 months until he reached his final breath just over a week ago.
As difficult as the last 12 months have been, yet, I have learned so much.
In my own way of grieving for my father, I decided to capture lessons that I learned watching my father go through the process of death in this article: Lessons from a dying parent.
I pray this article benefits anyone who’s going through similar circumstances. Ameen.
Please make dua for my father and for my family. JazakumAllah khair.
Sincerely,
