9th Ramadan 1447H

Assalamu'alaikum,

Have you ever come back home from a long (fasting) day and found yourself a bit sensitive? Reacting to things that you normally ignore? Or did you ever wonder why some people or some situations trigger you more than usual?

When you're triggered - whether it's a comment from your spouse, a dismissive colleague, or the slow erosion of patience while caring for a loved one - your nafs steps forward before your qalb even has a chance to speak. And in that unguarded moment, you react in ways you often regret later.

This is why I partnered with Hafsah Adham, an emotional mastery expert, to create something I wish I had years ago, a practical tool that helps us build the one skill that sits between trigger and regret: Sabr.

Introducing the Sabr Notepad

The Sabr Notepad is a simple, one-page tear-out reflection tool designed for those real-life moments when emotions feel immediate and intense.

It walks you through six steps. Each one is designed to slow you down just enough to let your spiritual heart catch up with your impulse:

  1. Name what you're feeling

  2. Examine the story behind it

  3. Expand and cleanse the heart

  4. Anchor in Allah's Names.

  5. Reframe, renew your intention, and take action

  6. Elevate and steady the heart

To learn the thinking and science behind each step, read Hafsah's full breakdown here.

The whole process takes a few minutes. But those few minutes can prevent hours, even days, of rumination, escalation, or regret.

I want to be clear: I'm not suggesting you carry this notepad everywhere or stop mid-argument to fill out a page. What I am suggesting is that you build the reflective muscle before you need it most.

Use this tool at the end of the day to process a small frustration. Keep it on your desk or in your bag. Practice on the low-intensity stuff - the irritation, the minor disappointment - so that when the big moments come, your heart already knows what to do.

Sabr begets sabr. But it has to be practiced.

I pray this tool helps you and your loved ones develop Sabr.

Sincerely,

P.S. Gift this tool to someone who particularly feels 'hangry' during Ramadan ;) Order here.
