The Village Effect: Finding Barakah in Community

What my hometown taught me about time, relationships, and productivity...

Assalamu'alaikum,

I'm writing from my birth city of Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania, where I've returned for a family wedding. There's something profound about coming home that always shifts my perspective on time and productivity.

Sociologists call it "polychronic time" – a cultural orientation where relationships take precedence over rigid schedules. Here, I witness how my people won't rush through a conversation just because they have errands to run, and how neighbors still drop by unannounced for impromptu chai sessions. Sound familiar to those of you from traditional Muslim societies?

Many of us find ourselves caught between these two worlds. In one, we have the rich tradition of Barakah-centered living, where spiritual fulfillment and relationships form the cornerstone of a productive life. In the other hand, we face the relentless demands of hustle culture, where "time is money," and productivity is measured solely in output.

"How can we live a Barakah-centered life in a hustle-dominated world?" This question surfaces in every workshop I conduct. And you know what? It's like trying to grow a desert rose in concrete – nearly impossible!

Imam Al-Ghazali wrote about the concept of suhba (companionship) and its critical role in spiritual growth. He understood what modern psychology now confirms: environment shapes behavior more powerfully than willpower alone.

This is why I'm excited to announce the inauguration of the Barakah Culture Community – our digital oasis in the midst of hustle culture. For those who've been with us through our various iterations (from Facebook groups to the Slack workspace), you know we've been searching for the right format. Each attempt taught us valuable lessons about what our community needs to thrive.

Now, we're ready to launch something different. A space where professionals, creatives, entrepreneurs, and changemakers can support each other in living the principles of Barakah Culture.

I'm inviting you to a special webinar where I'll personally walk you through our brand new Barakah Culture Community platform! Click below to reserve your spot and be part of this inspiring journey.

Can't make it to the live event? Don't worry – upon registering, you'll get immediate access to our community platform and a complimentary 5-day Barakah Foundations course.

Think of this as your invitation to join a movement – one that's reimagining productivity through the lens of spirituality and community support.

Sincerely,
