The Ummah Advantage

Assalamu'alaikum,

Last weekend, I was blessed to be in Makkah and Madinah, and I couldn’t help but think of a unique advantage we have as a Ummah despite the challenging times we’re going through.

We're blessed with a rich set of mindsets, values, and rituals that transcend borders, languages, and races:

• Mindsets such as Steadfastness on Truth, Beautiful Perseverance, and Hereafter focus.

• Values such as Trustworthiness, Beauty, and Generosity.

• Rituals such as Salah, Fasting, and Dua

We take some of the above for granted, but when we reflect on them - we realize how important these divine teachings are to help us navigate contemporary issues with insights from the final revelation to humanity.

This is the Ummah's advantage; our connection to the Quran and Sunnah offers us a profound moral and psychological compass that empowers us in ways no other community can claim.

For the past five years, I tried to distill this advantage into the concept of Barakah. The idea is that the divine blessing of Barakah can profoundly transform individuals and institutions alike. Whenever doubt or despair cloud our vision, let's remind ourselves of the Ummah advantage. We have a reservoir of wisdom that uniquely equips us to confront any challenge, whether personal, organizational, or global.

May we always recognize and cherish this Divine advantage in our lives, harnessing its power to uplift ourselves and the world around us. Ameen!
