👌🏽 When Life's "Perfect Moments" Suddenly Change...
Assalamu'alaikum,
You know those moments when everything feels 'just right'?
Business is thriving, family is well, and you feel at peace...and then suddenly, everything turns upside down?
Last week, I found myself in one of those "just right" moments. Work was good, family was well, and spiritually, I felt connected. "Alhamdulillah," I thought, "everything seems fine."
A fleeting thought crossed my mind: "This will pass."
Sure enough, two hours later, I was bedridden with a high fever and a gut-wrenching stomach bug.
In my moment of illness, shivering under blankets, I noticed how quickly my thoughts shifted to:
"When will this pass?"
"I need to get back to work"
"I can't afford to waste a day in bed"
I realized I needed to embrace 3 pieces of wisdom from our faith to help us deal with the constant change of life:
Recognize that dunya will never settle on one condition for long, it's definitely going to change. Don't take any situation for granted, and be grateful for the moments you were able to remember Allah through them (the good and the bad).
Don't let yourself ride the rollercoaster of life with all its emotional ups and downs. Instead, plant your feet firmly on the ground whilst you watch the rollercoaster of life play out in front of you, and pray to Allah to deliver you safely to His Jannah at the end of the ride.
Learn to endure the unwelcome trials (small or large) of life patiently, recognizing that they are part of Allah’s plan, which is far better than our plans.
Life will never be perfect - but if we can know, see, and worship Allah SWT during all that He challenges us with - we'll get the reward of being in a place that's more than perfect, insha’Allah.
May Allah SWT grant us the wisdom to deal with life in ways that are most pleasing to Him. Ameen.
Practical Tips:
When things are 'just' fine, go the extra mile with your worship with sadaqah, Quran, athkar, salah, and qiyam. Nothing preserves blessings like gratefulness.
Practice saying "Alhamdulillah 'ala kulli hal" (Praise be to Allah in all conditions) or "Fiha khair" (there's good in this) or similar statements when facing inconveniences or trials. This helps you deal with life's challenges from a position of ridaa (contentment) and patience vs. a position of ungratefulness and being upset with Allah's decree.
A Final thought
While I dealt with a temporary illness from the comfort of my bed, I thought of our brothers and sisters who were living their normal lives - children going to school, families having breakfast together, businesses operating as usual - when suddenly, without warning, war erupted. Their "perfect moments" didn't just turn into a day of illness - they transformed into nights of bombing, lost homes, separated families, and unimaginable trials.
If Allah has blessed you with stability and safety today, consider donating to your local or online charity to help those whose lives have been suddenly upended. Even a small amount can help restore some stability to families who've lost everything.
Sincerely,
