How the Clock Became a Family Peace-Breaker
Assalamu'alaikum,
Picture this:
It's 9:00 AM. You're standing by the door, keys in hand, ready to go. But the rest of the family? Still getting ready, seemingly oblivious to the time.
You start the familiar dance: pacing the living room, checking your watch, and calling out "Yalla, let's go! Ciallo! We're going to be late!"
By the time everyone finally piles into the car, your mood is soured. That precious family outing? Already tainted by stress and frustration.
Sound familiar?
I'll be the first to admit – I'm that person. Sometimes, I'm the one causing others stress by running late, but more often, I'm the timekeeper, the "yalla" caller, the frustrated one watching the minutes tick by.
Recently, something hit me: This obsession with time wasn't just stressing me out – it was stealing precious moments with my family. The psychological pressure I was creating (often for arbitrary deadlines, not actual commitments like flights or appointments) affected how my loved ones saw me and how I interacted with them.
I had to ask myself: Do I want to be remembered as the father, husband, son, and brother who was always stressed about time? Or do I want to create more peaceful, joyful family memories?
That's when I decided to transform my relationship with the clock – and in turn, my relationships with my family.
